Bridge to Link Ireland and Scotland

April 1, 2009
by

The BMC today announced plans to build a state-of-the-art automobile and train connection between Scotland and Northern Ireland. Engineers are currently evaluating whether a bridge or tunnel will provide the best link between the two islands. Above is one of six proposed plans to cross the 37km (23 mile) span.

The Irish government applauds the plan, noting that the bridge will connect both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland to the rest of Europe. Meanwhile, officials in County Clare Ireland have also announced their own plans to launch a feasibility study to evaluate a possible Ireland-North American bridge.

I have a hard time crossing the Mackinaw Bridge when it’s windy. Wow, 23 miles!

I think this would be awesome! I would so love a bridge across the Atlantic – no more sardine-can flying! Perhaps one day we can do a round-the-world road trip šŸ™‚

Why don’t they just re-create the Giant’s Causeway, and we can all run across to Scotland like Finn McCool? Tee hee!

Is it just me imagination, or is it ironic that this article would come out on the very day I was planning to tell everyone where me pot of gold was… My story got buried by this one and the one about flying monkey bones found near Blarney Castle!?!

Since the English Channel Tunnel is 31.4mi long, you had me until you added the North American part.

Come to think of it, the proportions in the image should have stuck out like a sore thumb; those towers are 11mi high!

Actually, a rail link is mentioned in a 22Aug2007 EarthTimes article using pretty much the same words: http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/96910.html

BTW…”BMC” = “Big Man on Campus” or “Blarney Merriment from Corey” ???

Buiding this bridge is feasible & viable since it will integrate Ireland to the rest of Europe; it is only the remaining part of the EU that don’t have rail link to the continent. It should be a priority project of Britain & the EU.

However, the bridge that will link Ireland & North America is not only impossible, it is a baloney!
