Name Our Wheels
January 6, 2009
corey says…
We have a very important assignment for you…
Help us name our van. We’re taking our Toyota Sienna on the Irish-American Roadtrip and the vehicle really needs a name. Since the blog has this fancy “Poll” feature, I thought I’d give it a try.
Choose the name you think best suits the official wheels of the Irish-American Roadtrip.
POLLS ARE CLOSED – HERE ARE THE RESULTS
The people have spoken, and Fiona it is!

I really think your van should be named Miss Molly! She just looks like a Molly to me…
Regarding your options, hmm…Wayfaring Fergus (or Fiona) ? Eugene’s Excursions? Navigating with Noreen?
Are you taking Route 66 for the most part?
Fergus is my favorite. Looking forward to hearing about your adventures!
Hmmmm, I didn’t think about poetic titles as well š
We’ll be on a significant portion of Route 66. Our proposed route is posted at http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=100067570310481624938.00045de8929625500c5b5&ll=36.244273,-98.173828&spn=39.858627,54.580078&z=4
All of us in the L.A. area should pick one place to meet up, that way you guys don’t waste too much on the road. We have notoriously horrible traffic almost all day long.
I think it would be inappropriate for you two gentlemen to be on the road with an unattached female! So I voted for Fergus.
And thanks for the info about O’Neill NE and the world’s largest shamrock. I sent the Wikipedia link to my sister who is married to John O’Neill (not the same one, I think).
Shoot, you could do a trip and never leave Texas. Besides Shamrock, there’s Dublin and of course the rattlesnake races in San Patricio. Then there’s O’Donnell out near Lubbock…all this off the top of my head. I’m sure there is more.
Judy – We certainly wouldn’t want to “impropper” š Fergus and Fiona were neck-in-neck when I last checked.
My mom (Netta) has suggested Miss Molly…not sure if her write-in trumps all other votes??? She’s my mom for cryin’ out loud š
Melissa – Excellent suggestion. Milo in Ventura has suggested a hike followed by a stop at a pub on his end of town. We’re up for anything like that. We’ll start locking in some plans when we get closer.
Thanks for all the emails and comments lately. It REALLY has us excited about the trip. We have the best readers and listeners…really we do!
Liam & Corey,
I think you should have named your van “the Irish Rover”
I know that’s a groaner but it’s funny.
Have a great trip!
Judy B.
My rabbit is named Fergus, so I approve of that name.
Just occurred to me that a car (van) is like a ship…so Fiona sounds more appropriate to me now.
You know anyone from AAA? Used to work for them years ago. A triptik and tour guides could enhance your trip.
Hopefully the weather will still be nice when you guys come out there. It’s about 80 degrees today and will continue to be at least in the upper 70s for the next week and a half.
It is going to be soooooooo cold here in Milwaukee this coming week……so anything over 50 degrees is going to be balmy for us……L.A. here were come……please keep the heat on.
