Local Lookout & Templemore

corey says…After a leisurely breakfast with Sean and Bridget, we stopped by her aunt and uncle’s for a bit. Then it was off to Ballina/Killaloe to visit a few sites there. We started with the Five Counties Lookout (which some say offers views of eight counties). The sky was clear enough for it to be worth the trip up the mountain. The roads had a lot of wear and tear this year with all the rain, but we managed just fine. On the way up we stopped at the Graves of the Leinstermen.

When we returned to Ballina, we stopped at a petrol station and picked up some sandwiches and fruit and took them to Beal Boru (Brian Boru’s Fort). There was no one else there and the old fort in a wooded area was the perfect spot for lunch. Sean captured the moment when he likened it being a part of Robin Hood’s band of merry thieves.

Later that evening, Tony and I went to the session at Maher’s in Templemore. It was a very good session and it wasn’t long before the pub was pretty full. Harry & Rick, who we met on Tuesday, showed up with the rest of their group from Philadelphia.

I think a good time was had by all.
