I am the most desperate case out there (I am actually serious)... I am a disaster! I need Rosetta Stone's intercession fast and I am relying on it with all my heart. If I were to win this and succeed at learning this language it would be a testament to how amazing Rosetta Stone is and how it can actually help the most lost cases. I have recently just qualified as a primary school teacher and it is crucial that I learn this language and learn it fast! It is a requirement in Ireland to have a sound knowledge of this language in order to enter the primary sector in education. I have recently started a course to prepare me for the upcoming exams in Irish and sadly I have to report I am the worst in the class and I am at my wits end trying to grasp what my tutor is speaking during our classes. It is a very intense course and I am struggling so much with it. My first exam starts in February and I have three others from then to June. I have never been much good at Irish and if Rosetta Stone can help me out here I will do all in my power to promote this to fellow students and anyone else I come in contact with... I really need this, so much the case that I am begging you. Please Rosetta Stone HELP ME.. I NEED YOU!!! I am 100% relying on.... I'm just out of college so to win this would be amazing...... what else can I say, I am telling you 100% of the truth..... PLEASE pick me to be the winner... I keep you posted on my progress if I win and again I will do everything in my power to promote you.. I wait anxiously to hear the result, please let it be me!!!!

To: Tina Miller
I would love to check your website and your info on John Gleeson but I don't have it and it doesn't appear in your letters. Also, if Stephen Gleeson can get this I would be curious to know how much info he has on John Gleeson and his life in Arizona. I would be glad to help if I can.

This account wrongly links Saint Brigid with pagan celtic ideas. Brigid was Christian and it is Jesus who inspired and created her goodness and love of others. The Order shs created was of Christian Nuns. And her Cross also was totally Christian. The story behind it is that she was nursing a dying pagan and told him of Jesus, Saviour and Redeeemer of the world, and to do that she wove a simple Cross from the straw on the floor. The Saint Brigid Cross in a house protects with the power of Jesus and each year new ones are blessed at Mass.

Thanks so much for the podcast on County Clare. Just to hear her voice describing the Cliffs brought back many fond memories of our trip to Ireland. One that comes to mind is the day we spent just wandering around Ennis and we found this old Catholic church that we could not help but be awe struck by its simple beauty, inside and out. My wife lit a candle for her father and we just sat and took it all in. Even now it brings a great feeling of warmth over me to tell you about it. Keep up the great work that you are doing. Oh, I loved following your American Roadtrip and being from Wisconsin I feel an extra closeness to what you are doing.

250 years is impressive.

I'll be at the dentist, so I'll have to celebrate belatedly, in Missouri. Did have some Guinness in Ireland a few years ago; I'm not a frequent drinker, but it had a unique taste.

Vicki & the rest of the crew,

You’re in for quite a treat in Ireland. Our Dublin podcasts cover the basics of the capital, and the guidebooks will cover the rest of the city. Are you traveling outside of Dublin? Where? How long are you there?

When I travel, I bring along two larger memory cards for my camera (1 or 2 GB), and I also throw in the smaller 250 MB that came with my camera. Truth is that in a week, I don’t come close to filling one of the cards. Since I’m there for months at a time, I upload them to my computer & Flickr, but I have also gone into photo shops (often in Pharmacies/Chemists) and had pics burned to CD. Don’t bring a laptop if you don’t have to, it just gets in the way.

Diana – Thanks for your own suggestions. Sounds like you had quite a whirlwind tour. I doubt you’ll make that mistake twice.

Your kind words are also appreciated. We’d love to post more podcasts and information… alas, “real” life gets in the way. Don’t worry though, we’ll continue to put more up.

I wish I had read this list before my first trip to Ireland. My sister and I went for two weeks last summer and we broke rule # 1!!! Its amazing how small and driveable the distances look on the map, but that is so not the case. While we did have a wonderful time, we spent much of each day driving, which is suprisingly stressful and tiresome. We landed in Dublin and went in a clockwise circle around the entire island in 13 nights. Of the 3 or 4 stops we had planned for each day we were very lucky if we saw two. The funny thing is, the spontaneous stops (stopping just because something caught our eye) was when we had the most fun. By all means make your list of favorites, but don't feel like you have to cross them all off the list. Leave time to stop at that ancient crumbling church that isn't in any guide book and let yourself really enjoy all that Ireland has to offer. No matter where you go in Ireland you'll find something worth seeing or somebody fun to talk to. I can't wait to go back and start all over again, just at a much slower pace this time.

I want to thank you Liam and Corey for your wonderful podcast. Irish Fireside is an invaluable source of information for all thing Ireland. You both do such wonderful work and it is a pleasure to listen to you. My only complaint is that there aren't more to listen to!!!!

Enjoyed listening to your piece on County Clare, my home away from home. I have been visiting Doolin every year for about 6 years now and my daughter and I both cherish our time there. We just returned from a trip that saw us walking the beaches at Fanore and Lahinch, attending sessions in Kinvarra and Ballyvaughan and a concert at the fabulous Glor in Ennis. The people and the landscape combined make this our favorite place to relax and enjoy the simple beauty as we gaze out over Inisheer!

I just listened to a few of your podcasts today! I think this list and the packing list and all other info on this site will be very helpful as we prepare for our trip in October. We arrive in Dublin around the 12th...any tips or things we (4 ladies) should know or do? How do you keep all the pictures you take daily? many cards or small travel laptop to empty cards onto at the end of the day? And what kind of shoes? Hiking boots or gym shoes? I'm soo excited to hear back from you and to spend more time at this site! Thank you sooo much! Vicki, Tammy, Rachel and Michelle (Maple Grove Minnesota USA)

I too am from the Milwaukee area and have in the past taken Aer Lingus. There used to be specials in conjunction with Irish Fest, but not this year.

We are planning on taking Continental in March 2010 for our next trip. About the same price, but we don't need to take the inter-airport bus to Chicago and we can have a much easier trip this way.

Our last trip on Aer Lingus was not the greatest experience, but we didn't mind that much because of the good fair price.

You said that you were near Milwaukee, where are you from?

When it comes to B&Bs & self-catering, I refer to the message boards at www.irelandexpert.com and www.irelandyes.com. Pat and Michele will give their personal recommendations, and their online communities will pipe in as well.

Prices have come down a bit on self-catering places, but huge discounts won't be found (most were already the most economical option).

Good luck and safe travels.

My wife and I are planning to visit Ireland in March 2010. I have found that while there are not any great bargains advertised for lodging (self-catering), if you email and request a deal, most are willing to bring down their price.

I would be interested in any information on Co. Wicklow.

I just got back from 10 days in Ireland. You're list is great! I'd add a hat and scarf, sleeveless thermal shirt, reading light and I liked the kid-sized pillow/blanket combo. I got my converter/adapter there, wish I hadn't taken my laptop and packed too many clothes. Kept my money, passport, id's in a waist money carrier and a few Euro/Pounds in my pocket. Next time a carry-on will suffice! I agree with the four essentials! Also, packed a little backpack for short day trips and liked the zip lock bags to keep all organized!

Never been...... but planning a trip.

We are going to try to fly into Shannon airport. From there we plan to stay in a nearby BB. Definitely gonna hit Bunratty Castle and Folk Park. The next day were gonna make the drive to the Cliffs of Moher. We are considering visiting Lough Derg, but not sure if we will have time. We'll see. We are also thinking about going to the Glor Irish Music Center in Ennis.

Im sure we will think of more before we go.

I've been told I don't need any help with the gift of gab, but I kissed the Blarney Stone anyway. For some reason, I was expecting to lean back and be facing the stone above me. That would have been easier. Instead it is directly behind you vertically so you have to bend your head way back to get the angle.

It's not difficult, but it does happen fast. Be prepared to slide back farther than you think and lean back more than you expect as well. I'll be posting my picture kissing the Blarney Stone when I write something about the trip on my blog.

On our recent trip to Ireland, we stayed in a B&B in a small town called Ballinamore, in county Leitrim. The B&B was very nice and extremely clean. What I enjoyed most were the conversations we had with our hosts. They were very friendly and they helped give us a sense of the community. They also helped a bit with my family history search and some local directions as well! (By the way, I'm sure they would have given us plenty of space if we wanted it, so don't be scared off if you are looking for privacy.)

The name of the B&B is Buille Toll - http://www.builletoll.com/. I recommend it.

Hi Corey and Liam

This just reminds me of our visit in February and our stories shared about our relatives in Ireland. My cousin Mary from the farm was so gracious on our second visit. She brought me so many little presents. One was a St. Brigids Cross. It wasn't new and looked like it had hung in her house in the original package for many years. I think I love even more because of that!! the package was filled with prayer cards and notes about the symbolism I feel like i have my own Irish Shrine now!!

Mary also gave me the 150th anniversary book of the school that her husband and all the rest of my ancestors went to before coming here. It was such a treat. She is so happy to have me as a pen pal and I love her letters too. It was such a treat to get the St. Bridgids cross which now hangs right next to my china cupboard. If only she would send me Jesus with the broken arm tied to the cross!!

THanks for bringing back the memories. I now have her brother in-law on facebook another treat!! His sons I am sure signed him up!! but before we met he barely could use the internet!! It is great to keep in touch with them.

Thats all for now, Thanks for the podcast and blog!!

It's a diifcult transition, take your time, especially when arriving at Dublin airport as the roads are immediately quite busy. Spend some time in the environs of the airport if you need it, take it slow, keep calm and keep the white line on your right shoulder!

I live in Ireland but I'm from NY and I make the trip usually four times a year. I used to enjoy flying Aer Lingus (Aer Fungus as we not-so-fondly call it!) but the service is so dismal that I'm now a loyal Continental customer. I only fly Aer Lingus if there happens to be a substantial price difference on the day I need to fly, which happens very rarely. (It did happen this week for some reason, so on last night's flight into Shannon I had a refresher course on why I prefer Continental.)

Aer Lingus is simply not looking after its customers - even the smallest things matter, and they seem not to realise this. Continental for example goes up and down many times during the flight giving out water. Aer Lingus does not do that. The "morning refreshment" on Aer Lingus today consisted of a glass of juice - I remember when we used to get an actual breakfast and hot towels! Those days are long gone. (Continental still does breakfast.)

I also once saw a little old lady ask an Aer Lingus stewardess for help putting her bag up, and the stewardess refused to assist her - not cool. I assume it says in her contract that she need not lift bags, so there was no way she was going to help the woman, no matter how fragile she looked.

On my Aer Lingus flight this week the entertainment system didn't work, and I was pretty unsurprised. The flight attendants on this flight were ok, I have to say, but they are frequently snarly and rude.

I was once on a Continental flight that was delayed due to technical problems - a few weeks later they sent me a voucher for 100 dollars. I have been delayed on Aer Lingus but I'd certainly never hope for any compensation from them!

Continental has a great frequent flyer programme - I earned enough miles in four or five years with them to take a trip to New York for a few days, then on to Buenos Aires, then back to Ireland - paid for solely in miles; I just had to pay the taxes.

When I flew to New York on Continental three weeks ago, the flight was full (overbooked actually - they were offering 300 bucks to anyone willing to switch over to Aer Lingus's flight); this morning on Aer Lingus, I had two empty seats next to me and there were plenty more empty seats around the place.

The thing is that we always used to fly Aer Lingus, and they really could have kept my loyalty had they just kept up better standards! But they're awful, they really are.

We have flown both Aer Lingus (connecting through JFK) and Delta to get to Ireland. We actually prefer the planes on Delta, but we had gotten some fare deals in the past with Aer Lingus. We will probably go back to flying Delta again, especially since we belong to their frequent flyer program...

We really do prefer to fly to Shannon, but it's becoming more difficult to find a way to fly direct to SNN, and we will not fly through Newark or JFK again, unless we have no other options!

We're like you, Corey. We're getting very tired of the more rapid erosion of customer service and hearing that it's due to the poor economy. Whatevah!

Corey:

I also fly out of Chicago to Shannon usually on Aer Lingus, but the extra drive to Milwaukee would not bother me at all. Let us know how things go for you on Continental and Delta — I might be making that change as well.

Thanks

I usually fly Aer Lingus within Europe, Delta from US to IE -- at least Aer Lingus has not yet followed Ryan Air to charge 60 euro if you do not print out your boarding pass & bring to airport...

Donna - Funny you should comment at the very moment I was listening to your latest podcast. I get to read one conversation while listening to another.

Carla - I'm very sad Aer Lingus hasn't been keen on adapting quickly to the changes. I think Pre-Clearance has marketing cache that screams "we're all about the customer experience."

I'm leaving for Ireland in 15 days. I paid a little more to fly on Aer Lingus, mainly to avoid NY/JFK. If I had known about Aer Lingus not participating in US Pre-Clearance when I was booking my flights, I would have gladly flown through JFK on another carrier.

I was so excited to hear about the fact that we could walk around the cliffs and feel like a real blond not realizing about the "other" area's that I could have walked *GRIN*. I was at the Cliffs of Mohr back in July of 05 and was dissapointed not to be up close and even though I saw the other area and thought about sneaking over there...lol I didn't want to get in trouble. NOW I will be sure and do it next time I am there! It was the funnest weather, one of the only times it rained in the 10 days I was there, no seriously and it was windy and so Irish. From there we went to Bunratty and did the banquet, I agree, it is a must! Thanks for this podcast!

First, you will not find a nicer native population anywhere...we love the Irish!

Second, I remember a bit o' traffic (construction) as we had to go through Limerick on our way from Nenagh to Dingle but it was a nice city to drive through...so anyway all that to say...You simply MUST get out to Dingle...The ring of Dingle simply must not be missed if you are within driving distance...it was our favorite day/trip from our stay...and we had alot of great days!

The Irish are such warm and welcoming people. You'll make friends very fast.

We had a wonderful visit to King Johns Castle. I liked the area where they talked about the coins minted in Limerick.

Lough Gur was a very interesting site. Lots of little stops along scenic country roads.

As a fellow who lives in Texas, too,
rest assured, the Lone Star state will miss you.
Try the pints, hear the music, take in every little part,
but in Ireland it's the people that will capture your heart.
The genuine smiles, a warmth like no others,
you'll feel that you're living among sisters and brothers.
Just remember the Alamo, and our skies so blue,
and be sure to share dear Texas with them, too!

Best wishes Hailey, you're living a dream! -Bill

The Cliffs of Moher was my favorite memory of my visit to western Ireland in 2007. A must-see. The visitor's center is fabulous. Not only was it an ideal refuge for a sudden hail storm, it contained wonderful exhibits. I really enjoyed the iMax film they presented. The film wasn't mentioned in your interview, but anyone who goes to the visitor's center should make it a point to see this film.

This podcast brought back lovely memories. Thank you, Corey!

I had to go to Brigid's well last time, left my trinket too.
Chills it gives you when you kneel at the end of that hall and look up, and simply listen to the sounds of the water and breath in.

My last stay in Ireland was capped off by a memorable day and evening in Clare. This magical county is filled with dramatic earthly beauty, from the "moonscape" starkness of the Burren to the majestic black cliffs plummeting to the sea. I remember standing near the ancient Poulnabrone dolmen looking at the wildflowers and hearing suddenly the May song of the cuckoo. It was the first time I'd ever heard a cuckoo sing and I learned later that it is considered a fortunate moment for anyone to hear it.

Getting directions is always fun in Ireland. But in Clare, you'll often hear, "Turn left at the castle," with the frequency that we in the States might say, "Turn left at the convenience store."

Along the way we stopped at a shop in Ballyvaughan to buy a simple lunch of local cave cheese, bread and lemonade and drove up Corkscrew Hill for a picnic at its top. Glad we saw the perspective of the drive after we made it!

Our gracious hostess at the farmhouse we were staying at in Doolin treated us to dark Irish tea and biscuits after we checked in, and gave us perfect suggestions for dinner and traditional music.

Of course we stopped at the Cliffs of Moher, which at that time had access right to the edge. What was more dizzying, watching tourists dangle their feet over the edge or watching the churning seas below? Tough call. The beauty of the sight is overwhelming.

Nearby the farmhouse was a shop where local artisans sold their work. The most colorful and beautiful handmade Aran-style sweaters I have even seen in my life were in that shop. To this day I marvel at my credit card restraint in the place.

We had a superb final dinner at a Doolin restaurant, a gourmet feast you'd expect at the finest restaurants in Manhattan, not tucked away in a cosy Clare country house. That was followed by pints of Guinness and a lively session at the nearby pub, where some had the courage to stand and sing with the musicians. One Clareman treated us to a performance of his sean nós dancing, too.

This one stay in Clare inspired the opening to my second novel, "A Sudden Gift of Fate," that will be published soon. To say visiting Clare is life-changing is an understatement!

Very timely podcast, having just returned from ten days in Ireland.
Interestingly, both the Irish Immigration and USA Immigration/Customs folks asked me about my employment and whether I was traveling for business (even though I checked the "pleasure" box on the forms). I guess I looked very business-like wearing a sportcoat purchased a couple of years ago at Blarney Woolen Mills in Bunratty!

In September/October 2007, my husband and I took our 3rd trip to Ireland. This time we chose to spend the last several days of our trip in Newmarket-on-Fergus. We stayed at a wonderful little B&B called Country Haven. From Newmarket, we drove to and explored the Lough Derg area one day. What a beautiful area! My husband and I still talk about the stunning blue lake and the verdant green countryside surrounding Lough Derg. Another day we drove to the Burren and poked around that area for several hours.

We went to visit friends in Ballyvaughan for the afternoon. Driving 'home' to our B&B, a rainbow that spanned the entire horizon in front of us seemd to guide us back to Newmarket. Mary had told us earlier that she would not be in when we got back, but that she would leave us a slice of apple pie in the dining room, which she did. We grew to look forward to Mary's apple pie. One of my fondest memories of staying at Mary's was the quiet road her B&B was on. We would take a walk each evening down the road, usually with a neighbor's dog accompanying us. I can still see the moon shining as we took a late evening walk on our last night there....last night, that is, for our 2007 trip. We'll be back time and gain; we have to for a piece of our heart remains.

Great podcast -- which I was able to enjoy on my walk into work today. Geraldine sure was a dynamo of a salesperson for Co. Clare. That's fine by me as I'm partial to the West anyway. :) Thanks for the good show and interview.

We have visited Clare on each of our four trips to Ireland. Every time, we discover something new and interesting. While we feel that people should visit the Cliffs of Moher (and take the cruise from Doolin, if possible), County Clare is so much more than that!

Take a walk in the Burren with a guide. Visit the Burren Centre in Kilfenora. Visit each of the Aran Islands (we have one more - Inis Man - to go). Take a walk in the medieval downtown area of Ennis and visit Ennis Friary. Stop at Quin Friary; it contains the most complete cloister in Ireland. And be sure to drop by Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, and stay for the Medieval Banquet at the castle.

We could spend a month exploring all of the facets of Clare. Someday, we hope we'll get the chance!

Slan,
Kathy

I recenly visited County Clare, My grandmother grew up in Kildimo close to Miltwn Malbay. She moved to US in 1917 and I was lucky enough to travel to her homeland in 2008 and now in 2009. The experience of a lifetime. My cousins live there and I have never experienced such a life altering place. My roots go deep there and I love the people and country and if posible I hope to call it home someday.

HAD SUCH A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE MY LAST TRIP TO ENNIS AND CLARE. FLEW INTO SHANNON AND DROVE TO ENNIS TO THE RED COTTAGE B & B, ONLY A FEW KILOMETERS FROM DOWNTOWN. OUR HOSTESS, CARMEL, WAS MORE THAN GRACIOUS, THE BREAKFASTS WERE FABULOUS, THE BAR ATTACHED RIGHT THRU THE SWINGING DOOR, AND A BRAND NEW FULL-COURSE MENU FOR THEIR OWN RESTAURANT UPSTAIRS. WE COULD WALK TO DOWNTOWN AND SAMPLE ALL THE DIFFERENT PUBS. HER SON TOOK US ON A TOUR, IN THE MORNING, TO THE CLIFFS OF MOHER. SPECTACULAR VIEWS AND A WONDERFUL IMAX SCREENING AND SHOPPING INSIDE THE HILLS. THEN DOWN THE ROAD TO FANORE AND DOOLIN. AAHHH, GUS O'CONNERS-GREAT MUSIC.I WAS TOUCHED BY THIS VISIT SO MUCH, I THINK OF IT EVERY DAY AND CAN'T WAIT TO RETURN ASAP.

They did a great job with that center...blends in very nicely and is educational. BTW I bought a knitted hat from one of the vendors and didn't see another like it anywhere in Ireland. I really treasure it.

We were in Ireland a year ago, and, it still brings tears to our eyes to see our pix of the cliffs, and County Claire.( http://www.flickr.com/photos/magtimmag/sets/72157606236456936/ ). There isn't a day goes by that we don't think of the people and sites. Crossing the Shannon by ferry, wandering through the little hamlets, talking with the people. We are saving to go again, and this time we'll fly into Shannon. Can't wait...

Usually I'm up in the north, but one of my memories of Clare is taking a long rainy trip one autumn day to see a friend play at Glor Music Center in Ennis -- only there over night so didn't get to see much beyond the music, but music was completely worth it. And even in the audience, musicians Manus McGuire and Mairtin O'Connor, among others. Great evening of music altogether.

Not to put it in too somber of terms, but my father passed away in 2005 and some of his medical issues were attributed to having served time in the military and therefore we received a small payout after he passed. My mom and I chose to use some of that money to take our trip to Ireland - it was part of our healing as my dad's family is Irish.

Standing on the Cliffs of Moher was one of the best, most healing experiences of the whole trip. We took at small vial of my dad's ashes with us and left them there on the cliff and then each took some time to stare out to the sea. I cried quite a bit, but ultimately it was a beautiful, moving, peaceful experience as I kind of left a lot of grief and sorrow up there on those cliffs.

We drove all over the country, but when I close my eyes, it's the free feeling of standing up on those cliffs that comes rushing back to me.

My family (on both sides) has Irish roots. I have spent my life learning to speak the language of my profession (medicine), I would love the opportunity to use the Rosetta Stone program to learn to speak the language of my ancestors.
Thank you!

I went to Ireland in late June and the first place I stayed was Ennis. I absolutely love it there. My favorite memory from there would have to be watching the Clare vs. Tipperary hurling game and then going out to the local sporting goods store to buy a team jersey. (I also ended up buying a jacket.) I wish I could have stayed longer than just two days!!

I am Irish decent and have made a trip to Ireland in early 2000. Have attempted other Irish language products with little luck. Have thought about attempting the Rosetta Stone product based on reviews I have heard on the software in general.

PLEASE! Help me understand my daughter's schoolwork!!! Although our home is in WI, we have also been living in Ireland for 8 years for my husband's work. We have 2 lovely children who are both born in Ireland! My daughter is 6 and has been speaking Irish for 3 years (the baby doesn't say anything yet) and is now attending an all-Irish school, Scoil an Duinninigh, in County Dublin. Most Irish schools in Ireland are primarily in English and all students learn Irish as a "second language" as though it were Spanish or any other non-native language. A small but growing section of schools are taught entirely "as gaeilge" (in Irish). My daughter's school is one of these! Unfortunately my language skills are entirely "as bearla" (in English) and so far I have relied on the neighbor's daughter and a friend's mom to help me understand her homework. Trust me I HAVE TRIED to learn Irish. I own various language learning cd's which are free with the newspaper during "seachtain na gaeilga" (Irish language week) and I even took a course at a local college. As you can see, I have a few words - it will sink in eventually! But I would love the Rosetta Stone comprehensive program to help me get up to speed, pronto. PLEASE HELP - I'M DESPERATE! ps - a friend in Oregon who home-schools her 4 children and leads local a homeschool advisory committee uses Rosetta Stone Spanish successfully with her students and recommended it highly to me just last week ;-)

Howdy everyone,

Thanks for the basic computer guy or gal review of the softwear. I have been looking at this Softwear and others like it and have been compairing. Your review was very helpful. I wished Rosetta Stone would just send me a copy in the mail! That means that your web site and podcasts are reaching your target groups. Good work!

I really enjoy your podcasts and the information you provide on your site and it has been really helpfull in planning my first and most likely my only trip to Ireland in my life time. I have been using the free resources out there in cyber space to learn some Irish and now my family hates me, but I now know how to say hello and farewell. (Like all the time).

I would love to have the opertunity to use the Rosetta Stone softwear so that prior to the fight in the pub for saying to a woman, "I love your outfit", but really saying in Irish, "Do you always wear a sand bag"? I would realize me mistake.

Thanks,
Hatman

Most agencies will give an orientation to those who ask... but I'm not sure they have a standard protocol for this, so one rep might do a much better job than others.

The important details tend to be 1) how to reverse. 2) lights. 3) wipers. 4) steering wheel tilt. 5) opening the hood (the bonnet). As for how to drive, that could be a full-day course ;)

Truth is, I've been there when cranky visitors have snapped at the agents when they tried to give some unsolicited tips, so I guess they're darned if they do and darned if they don't.

I am the chef of an Irish tea room here in the States. I would love to be able to the Irish language to help me with the cultural aspect of my job. Just visited the old sod this past June and was totally enamored by the people and the land. A lot of my work is based on digging up and researching the "olde" recipes from the farmhouses and country houses and implementing them to share with a whole new American audience.

Shifting gear with the wrong/left hand and not the right(!) hand is a challenge for many of us. Myself, I do "righthand movement" as if seen through a mirror with my lefthand. So, when you're mixing up 1st and 3rd gear when the light turns green .... like a rabbit!

If renting a car from Budget or AVIS, you're usually equipped with some kind of paper telling you about driving on the left. But, you know, things that are normal to you, may seem odd for others. But seeing the issue, is not very easy. Agree with you, though, they should have a routine telling them to check the customer's home address before handing over the key. Speaking English, doesn't mean your from Ireland.

Good luck next time you're in Eire!

Seeing Irish on the list of revived languages brought home to me the need to carry on its study and transmission. I studied Irish Lit in college and fell in love with the language and stories of my ancestral island. I would love to exercise my brain learning Irish and simultaneously continuing its life. Wouldn't hurt to show up at feisanna being able to pronounce words a bit better, too!

Pick me Pick me! I would love to learn Gaelic. We just visited Ireland for the first time in March and were there for St. Patrick's Day as well. Being that both our families are Irish we want to learn as much as we can and can't wait to get back to Ireland. We fell in love with the land and took our daughter who was 15 months at the time.

I would love to have this opportunity to further my learning of this beautiful language. I have Irish ancestry on my father's side. I love all things Irish, and I am also an amateur historian studying ancient Irish history. Even knowing that the Rosetta Stone software most likely teaches modern Irish Gaelic, learning it would be a wonderful compliment to my studies.

my ancestors are from County Cork , Ireland and my siblings and I are planning to take a family trip to Ireland (hopefully next year). It would be great to learn the language and I've heard great things about Rosetta Stone.

I've seen the commercials, but had no idea Irish was one of the choices. I would definitely use this if I win it, and may consider purchasing it if I don't.

I spent almost an hour stuck in someone's driveway on the outskirts of Dublin trying to turn around before I knocked on someone's door in tears to ask how the heck to put the darn thing in REVERSE!

When we rented the car, I was 24 and my mom doesn't have her license, so here we are, two Americans, one underage per rental car policies and the agency gave us no instructions or help in terms of driving in Ireland. They handed us the keys and that was the end of it. There was no book in the glove box.

I was a bit shocked that they'd send us off without so much as a "remember to drive on the other side."

The moral of the story is that there was a ring, for lack of a better word, around the shifter and you had to pull that up towards your palm in order to put the darn car in R.

The poor lady who answered her door was very kind about it and even invited us in for tea and then dinner.

Like many of the other posters, my heritage is Irish. Beyond that, however, I have been trying to get my hands on Rosetta Stone Irish to help grow myself as a writer and a reader of world literature. I would love to read Gaelic language poetry in its original form to really understand the poets' intentions with the language (you lose so much in translation). As a writer of Creative Nonfiction, I am interested in tracing the rise and fall of the Irish language, and I find it without a doubt necessary to experience the language of which I am writing first hand. Additionally, I have plans to write a novel that includes a Gaelic-speaking character and this software would put me well on that path.

Thanks for a great opportunity!

This would be a great way to learn Gaelic. It would be very interesting, to say the least. Spanish and English were my first languages and I've always wanted to learn another language. Since I love the Irish culture so much, it would be fun to get this and see how well I do.
