Great list. It’s taken many years, but my stop at Parke’s Castle this summer let me check off all ten of these castles. Now I just wish I had the money to go through the castle hotel list :)

I am glad to hear you enjoyed the list. Each castle listed has its own ambiance. Strangely enough I find some of the ruins are the most evocative. Maybe I just like piles of stones. :-)

Corey, I would love to be able to stay at all the castle hotels in Ireland and then review them in my book and on my website. But they are just too expensive for my beer budget. For what I would pay for one night in a castle I could stay for a whole week at B&Bs or maybe two weeks in self-catering cottages. Sure, I have toured many castle hotels but this “Goldilocks” thinks that to rate them requires at least one overnight stay.

I hear you Michele. Hope Castle in Co. Monaghan is the closest I’ve gotten to a castle overnight, and that place does not measure up. One day, right.

Hi Michele, been checking out a little bit of Corey & Liam’s site and saw your contribution above. Thanks, this will be very helpful, once again, making plans for next trip. Many good wishes and memories for 2009! Youngka

ah, but I think you’re forgetting the north — Carrickfergus, Dunluce, Greencastle are three of my favorites in the six counties.

here’s a site with more about all of them
